Get a Handle on Your Power Steering!

Few drivers on the road today remember a time before power steering.
Wrestling the steering wheel for control of your vehicle as you piloted over two tons (4,000 pounds) of metal and machine down the road.   In fact, most people take power steering for granted believing that it is a naturally occuring component of an automobile.

The truth is that the power steering system of your automobile is a mechanical/hydraulic system requiring maintenance and care to continue operate at peak performance.

Before power steering was introduced in the first commercial vehicle, the 1951 Chrysler Imperial, controlling an automobile was hard work.  There were very few four finger drivers as we see today.  As with any technology, adoption of power steering as a standard feature in most cars took more than 20 years.

Today power steering is so much a part of the driver's experience that they neglect the system until they begin to hear the strange sound it make when the fluid is low.

Problems caused by dirty and neglected power steering fluid are:

  • Poor steering performance (steering becomes noticeably loose or difficult to turn the wheel or steer while changing lanes)
  • Hardened seals, leaks and unnecessary wear on the system
  • Repair and or replacement of the power steering rack which may cost in excess of $1,000.00

Maintaining your Power Steering is more than a matter of vehicle maintenance, it is a matter of personal and family safety. Your  vehicle steering is the only system which gives you complete control of the direction in which your vehicle is traveling.  Lose control over your vehicle while it is moving and you have just cooked up a recipe for disaster.

Recommended Solution:

  • Drain  the power steering fluid  resevoir
  • Refill the resevoir with a high quality power steering fluid
  • Vacuum flush the complete power steering system
  • Revill the system with power steering fluid with the correct viscosity.
